Taping

There are two main types of taping used to provide support for injured athletes

  • Traditional sport tape: strong white tape used to immobilize or support an injured joint. Mainly used after injuries that damaged the joint’s ligaments which has led to instability. The sport tape provides additional support to the damaged joint increasing its load capacity.

  • Kinesio tape: elastic colorful tape invented by a Japanese chiropractor who wanted a tape that provided support but didn’t limit movement the way traditional sport tapes do. Kinesiology tape may provide support, reduce pain and swelling, and have other benefits like ‘increased circulation of blood and fluids’ and ‘changed signals on pain pathways.
